"Take"? Alcott laid it out very clearly and unambiguously in her novel. There's not much room for "takes". It would be best to just respect the woman's work and do it the way she wrote it, without the imposition of any present-day ideological agenda.

Yet every adaptation to a different medium must perforce be a take to some degree.

I thought the Winona Ryder version was a bit too much like Anne of Avonlea, the PBS 80s version. Very similar dialogue and subplot.

The old Hollywood 40s version, the actresses were a bit old, but what can you do?
