Surely Jimmy would have had all the things he needed in a backpack instead of a shoe box.
The things in it should have been:
- A fully charged and registered burner phone instead of the one he was trying to rip out the packaging.
- A lot more cash. How the fuck was he going to make use of diamonds and remain hidden?
- Identification for a third identity. I'm sure he could have afforded it in Albuquerque.
- Keys to another vehicle registered under that third identity which was garaged at the another hideout.
- Keys to another hideout.

I think by the last episode he was written so out of character that the idea was: he is not himself anymore.
He pushes for hits that are too risky or immoral.
He turns violent.
He relies on subpar partners.
He almost has no real need for any of it.

It all points to Gene wanting to get caught. Hence he acts so under preparedly that he has no bug out bag ready, no backup vehicle, no hideout, nothing.

Yes- I thought it was really weird that he had no back up vehicle or “Go bag.” That would have been the first thing Saul would have done.

I thought the same.
He did start to seem at the end of his rope towards the end though, maybe just mental exhaustion and panic.
