Worth watching or simple soppy love story?

Hey sorry if this has been discussed before. I did start this series a while ago and not sure if worth going back to. I am Scottish and will pretty much watch anything Scottish related haha.
I wasn’t sure before started if it was gonna be just as soppy love story set in Scotland or if would be a bit deeper and touch on a very interesting period in Scottish history.
It was not as bad as thought and when I left it you started to learn they were raising funds for the rebellion. I know Bonnie Prince Charlie appears and it features the battle of Culloden.
I should point out that I am not judging it if is just a love story set in historic Scotland it’s just not gonna be for me. Any opinions cheers?

It's much more than a romance. It's really more of a period piece/family drama. The first two seasons lead up to the Battle of Culloden. It's quite historical, from what I've heard (since I am not at all knowledgeable about history, I have to take other people's word for it).

That’s good to hear. It’s a very interesting Period in history and the all the politics involved would be a shame if they didn’t explore that but sounds good. I will def look to watch on then. Thanks for the reply

The problem with this series, (both on tv and in the books) is that the story is very good for the first two seasons/novels. I got kinda bored in the 3rd book, despite mom telling me that it was an exciting adventure about Claire and Jamie crossing the ocean to move to America, and getting tangled up with adventure in the Caribbean.

Then, after they come to America, the story really peters out, and nobody, save for the hardcore fans, wants to read anymore. It's especially dumb that the actors don't look like they've aged a day past 28-30, when their characters are easily 48 and 50 in the later books.

I personally hated the 20-year-gap that happened in the second half of Season 2.

Aww that’s a shame, nothing more frustrating than a good series turning bad. I will give it a go as interested in the uprising history that it starts with. If it goes off after that then I will heed your warning and maybe just stop if i am no longer enjoying it haha

I would never consider myself a hardcore fan, but I continued to enjoy the story. The reason i said it was not just a period piece but also a family drama is because the story changes it's focus from time to time. There are story lines that focus on the family, but there are also story lines that are very driven by the historical events of the time.

It really depends on what you enjoy. The main characters meet and fall in love in the first book, so there is more hot, steamy romance there. But as they years go by, that becomes less of the focus. Some people really enjoyed the romance and lost interest as that aspect wasn't as front and center. That was never very important to me, so i continued to enjoy the books.

To each his own.

I don’t mind the shift in focus for time to time so will def give it a try thanks. Was just worried it would be a one dimensional romantic story but sounds good. Yeah I have watched a chunk of season 1 and yeah there is a lot of.....pleasant exchanges hahah

Don’t believe Ziggy. Her pic is next to “hardcore” in the dictionary.

Haha about it continuing to be decent or the whole thing?

Lol. If you think I'm a hardcore fan, your on the wrong website. Regardless, does it negate anything I said?

I have watched a chunk of season one they are married and just found out they are trying to raise funds for the rebellion! Which is the part I am drawn too. I was a thing myself too and without doubt the mrs walked through at every... passionate scene and got the expected “what are you watching!!!” It’s a proper show promise hahaha
