Excellent

one of the better sci fi in recent years

Yes. I think it's the best since 2001: A Space Odyssey. I rate it at 9.8, only slightly less than the 10 which I gave to 2001.

This is a great movie I gave it a 9/10 but I don't think its the best since 2001 A Space Odyssey, That's 50 years worth of Sci-fi.

Which sci-fi movies would you rate above it?

Many:

Blade Runner, Alien, Terminator 2, Moon, The Thing among others

All good movies, but none of them measures up to Annhilation imho. I give it a 9.5. I deducted a few points after I considered some of the plot "problems" such as them camping in a secure watch tower, and then putting an OP on the ground. Dumb.

I would give Blade Runner and Alien an 8.5. Terminator and Moon an 8. The Thing a 7.6.

that's for sure, different from the book's plot but an worthwhile animal of its own. Lot of suspense and surprisingly effective horror, and some things at the end forcing you think and interpret (or you will hate it of you fail at that).

I really liked it. It gave me the same kind of feeling as I got while watching The Thing (1981). Not many movies give me that feeling

1982 btw

It was just terrible - gave it a 5/10
A bunch of too skinny or too chubby ladies with guns in a forest.
I couldnt refrain from laughing seeing thin portman firing her gun in slowmo and almost kicked off her feet xD
Was that scene intended to look badass? ... lol
Had to skip some parts before I fell completely asleep.
The last part was just cringeworthy bad. The CGI of a film student?

The skull-bear was kind of creepy. But still could have been done better.

Didnt help either that we already saw everything remarkable on posters/ in trailers.

Im a huge "the thing" or "ex machina" fan btw ...

If the director wanted to satisfy the audiences with your appetite, this movie probably would become another music video in which Oscar watched the poor baby doll dancing.

what are you talking?
I said Im a huge "the thing" or "ex machina" fan...

reply

I am talking about your "too skinny or too chubby ladies" comment. What do you expect thin portman to use? Hand gun or knife? If you like to watch some badass ladies with model figure, fighting like they are in a video game, then movie "sucker punch" is more suitable for you. I am sure that music video type movie will keep you awake with it's CGI special effects.

Especially the part were they are in the guard post and the one chick is randomly 'outside' of it (when she gets taken by the bear) - talk about telegraphing a death ... this was 80's teen horror movie stuff.
