This was quite a good movie. Here's what I got from it... The movie is about Jesus and his Second Coming. Just one way that the event can pan out...

I think there was a rapture-type event going on.

The entity at the bottom of the sea looked liked a giant anus.

Just think about it: Anus = asshole = a soul = a Sol = a sun = The Son of God

So, yea, something that on the surface looks truly horrific is actually the most benign thing ever. The coming of the son of God. His taking all the faithful into the next world with Him.

That's just an interpretation... What did you think the movie was trying to communicate?

I don't know what the movie was trying to communicate but it was pretty enjoyable. 6/10

It was decent but could've been better. The creature was great. I thought it was fascinating to see it with all its tendrils. I did wonder about all crew praying. Was I being proselytized in the name of a middling horror film? Was I gonna start getting bible verses thrown my way? In the end, I figured it was a character trait of people who live/work on trawlers - they pray for safety just as they had superstitions about the red hair, etc. (PS: Yea, I did think many parts of the creature looked like a chocolate starfish but that's where it ended for me.)
