Harvest episode homage?

Wo!

Did anybody else think when Morse arrived in Bramford that he was on his way to ending up inside a huge wicker statue and be set afire as a virgin sacrifice?

Surely that whole village and its inhabitants was an homage to Wicker Man?

Nicely done, while managing also to weave in all the other necessary threads of the episode.

reply

Absolutely!

I can't watch horror films so, although obviously I know the premise (and ending) of Whicker Man, I can't list the specific references. But when he first arrived and was trying the doors, and the Morris Dancers and so-on, I was waiting for something to happen!

reply

Yes, I really did think he would have been in alot of trouble there and they would have used that situation more

I definitely thought the missing man might have been sacrificed, and that they might be looking for another victim.

reply

Haha yes! I just saw this episode and that's exactly what I thought of when he got to the village with the churlish villagers. "Is he going to wind up inside a wicker man?!"

reply

OMG YES YES!!! At first, I also thought this
entire village is pagan and they are going to sacrifice someone. And we also see Morse looking briefly at a photo of Stonehenge.
I was getting a very uneasy feeling! Yes, The Wicker man, and I Recalled the wonderful book "Harvest Home" by Tom Tryon, made into a TV movie.

When he was examining the scarecrow , you know I thought
the missing man HAS to be the scarecrow
obviously it wasn't but I was very uneasy. LOL. It was delightful, as I love anything horror.
