What the Hell?

She decides to have a baby she knows will die. She should be flagellated.

I don't think things were changeable. She knew what would happen because it would always happen. And she learned that the joys she had/will have w her child were worth the pain. That's my take on it.

Destiny or free will?
Are our hands tied together or can we decide our future?
I have been thinking about this for many years and in university my friends and I would debate endlessly.
I still don't have an answer (neither to "what is the meaning of life?" d'oh! :), but this is what I believe:
There are some important, crucial points in our lives that we cannot avoid.
We can take different paths, choose left from right, but in the end we will end up in the same place.
There's a lot to talk about this, but to answer your question
1. She can decide to have the baby, like the guy above me said, for the joy and happiness she will have with her daughter and for the kid's happiness as well. Even it's only for 16 years, who gives you the right to take the beauties of life away from a child?
We are all going to die. Could happen tomorrow or in 2 years or in 20 years. Does anybody kill themselves because of this? People diagnosed with cancer struggle for every sunrise they can get, for a little more time to stay with the loves ones, to listen to a song, to watch the sea, probably because every second of life is precious?
2. She can decide not to have the baby, so she leaves the man. She alters the future. From now on, she doesn't know what will happen. Years later, she meets another man and has a child. What if, just what if, that child still gets cancer when 16? Maybe that's her child's destiny, no matter who the father is... Or maybe a child with another man will be safe. Who knows?

Would she have been raped if she refused? What would stop her having an abortion?

1. The examples you gave were people who were already born, not the same thing.

2. She doesn't actually it will work like that, so its retarded to go through with something she knows will bring pain.
