Oh Yay More SJW Wars

If I want Star Wars I'll rewatch the original trilogy.

George's take on how to make a female character strong: Make her grating and insulting against all the men around her, even insulting Chewbacca as collateral damage because he's Han's co-pilot.

reply

I thought her insults were often funny. She was a tough gal.

reply

They were, and they were fitting for Carrie. Leia should have gone to the Dark Side and become a villain.

reply

Make Leia a villain?!?

Oh yeah, far less sexist... 🙄

reply

I was doubling down on that sexism, exactly

reply

Nerfherder.

reply

She was great. And she knew how to use a blaster fairly well.

reply

She wasnt as good with a blaster as Princess Vespa (who does NOT look Druish)

reply

But they shot her hair!

reply

She was still mad about the hair dryer.

reply

See, I don't understand this complaint.

I'm not defending sexism, George Lucas, or his writing of female characters, but if you dislike the original Star Wars films so much, why do you care?

I don't care for WWE, or whatever it's called these days. It's never appealed to me. And so, I've never cared about trying to shape it to my own tastes. It would be extremely arrogant and entitled of me to seek to change something I don't care for but clearly gives so many millions of others so much pleasure.

Now, complaining about something you like that's been subsequently destroyed by sexism, racism, or whatever, I could understand.

reply

I love the original trilogy! I'm just realistic about them.

reply

Fair enough.

If you love the films despite those issues, I understand. I sympathise.

What bugs me are non-fans who think the franchise should accommodate them.

reply

Todays characters are mary sues.

Strong women from the past are much better and more realistic.
