Technically, Anakins mother was impregnated by the Force (or the midi clorians as manipulated by Darth Plagueis). But he as the chosen one still had to "learn the ways of the Force" and did not "download" it. Despite that he was shot down several times, got beaten and badly maimed several times and nobody really liked him but his mommy and his wife.
Compare that to Hug-me-Rey!
Only explanation for her blatant Sue-ness would be that she is a Force Goddess suffering from amnesia who can do anything, is better at everything, and must be loved and adored by everybody.
And yet, Luke's powers will never need to be explained. Hell, in the beginning of Empire Strikes Back, Luke does a Force-pull on his lightsaber even though he's never seen telekinesis being done with the Force. He had no way of knowing it was even possible.
It seems that the main excuse for Luke is "it took more time," overlooking that he barely had any training whatsoever.
Luke also built his own lightsaber with no one to teach him how. Maybe he found the technical specs online?
Luke defeated the all-powerful Vader in their second fight, in fact Luke's second fight overall, even though Luke had never ONCE trained in lightsaber combat. Rey had more experience than him due to her rough life on Jakku and her use of a staff to defend herself.
Super-competent male characters just don't tend to get picked apart the way super-competent female characters do. Then of course you compound this with the whole nostalgia vibe that makes people accept older movies without any nitpicking or analysis, as if there were no standards for realism back then... or something.
THEN COMES THE KICKER: I'll put this in a topic like I had meant to do. The Star Wars stories clearly show that Jedi training makes a Jedi weaker, and that "natural talent" is far superior.
Normal Jedi: Training from 5 years old, committed to training for years and years continuing well into adulthood.
Anakin/Vader: Was "too old" to train at 10. Excelled through training, surpassing others who had trained longer, and became extremely powerful.
Luke: Was "too old" to train at 18. Received a minute or so of "light practice" with Ob-Wan Kenobi, and then a few days or PERHAPS a few weeks with Yoda, mostly concentrating on mental discipline, exercise, and telekinesis (which he had already done on his own). Became powerful enough to become the new "Jedi God" and defeated Anakin/Vader in their second fight.
Rey: No training to interfere with natural talent.
lol, I cannot tell if your sarcastic or trolling me. Nostalgia? Accept it Rey is Mary Sue writing off the charts. But as TFA is a rehash of ANH lets compare the two characters and let the plain facts speak:
- Rey understands all languages, including Wookie and droid speak - Luke does not;
- Rey is a formidable fighter beating up thugs and scaring off scavengers away from their loot - Luke is not, he is beaten up several times (by the sand people & in the bar) and is in need of protection and help throughout the movie (Han, Obi Wan);
- Rey is noble and strong; Luke is whiny, reckless and weak.
- Rey despite being raised by ruthless scavengers such as Unkar Putt has developed an superhuman morality compelling her to starve rather than to betray a little droid she just met – Luke treats droids like property/slaves;
- Despite hating guns Rey immediately is an (untrained) formidable marks man hitting everything at a great distance while running away and shooting a stranger’s gun; Rey can even (incredibly) aim with the turret while she is piloting or hit 3 Ties with her first shot - Luke cannot, despite being trained with guns/rifles he is an average shot at best missing many, many shots;
- People and droids follow Rey like puppies, especially BB-8 (who is useless because Rey does all mechanics/engineering and door opening alone) – Luke seems not to have this fascinating effect, his droid R2 tricks him and runs away from him;
- Rey wants to stay home but only leaves for loyalty and compassion for her new friends and destiny - Luke wants to leave home, but stays out of weakness and loyalty (Owen/Beru);

- Rey is her own self-employed master and independent – Luke is not, he is Owen's subservient lackey;
- Rey the scavenger is an incredible ace pilot: Without a copilot or any experience with the ship she masterfully pilots the bulky Falcon through an abandoned destroyer and graveyard under fire outmaneuvering trained combat pilots - Luke does not even understand how the cockpit of the MF works ("what's that flashing?");
- While flying alone, Rey performs incredible stunt piloting moves, including aligning the Falcon in midair so that Finn just has to pull the trigger ("How did you do that? - I don't know – That was some flying – It was PERFECT") - Luke however is mocked, derided and not allowed to pilot, despite being set up as a pilot; and even in empty space in his X-Wing Luke needs constant assistance from R2 and other pilots and Han, who sacrifice themselves for him.
- Rey circumvents the security of Starkiller so that the explosive charges can be placed and the SK base be destroyed - Luke has no such abilities, he needs R2 to get saved from the trash compactor;
- Rey saves herself out of captivity, and only does not flee so that the team can blow up Starkiller, without her they would be lost - Luke plan to save Leia is amateurish and Leia takes over the lead when his poorly thought out plan fails miserably;
- Rey is an incredible mechanic and even a brilliant engineer stunning even Han (“I bypassed the compressor”) and despite her starved condition a great climber and spelunker - - Luke does not show such talents;
- Rey can do advanced Jedi Force tricks without training, like telekinesis, mind tricks, mind reading etc - Luke needs training for very basic Force abilities (knowing when to shoot the torpedo), and only reaches Rey's ability level when he is a trained Jedi;

- Rey beats the main antagonist (Kylo, Master of the Ren) several times with untrained Force and sword skills - Luke does not even come near the main antagonist (Vader), except for being nearly shot down by him and being saved by others;
- Rey is better with everything and bests everyone at their game (Han, Finn, Kylo, droids etc), even Luke & Poe were partially removed from the script so they cannot steal her spotlight; everybody becomes her cheerleader (Leia, Chewie, Finn etc) - Luke is a undecided zero at the beginning: Han is cooler, Obi is more powerful, Leia his sister is lightyears ahead of him (leader, senator), his friends such as Biggs are ahead of him too;
- Rey is the only hot young girl around with a posh accent - Luke is an average small farmboy, one of many kids, who mostly left him behind already;
- Rey gets a glorification hug for no apparent reason from the VIP Resistance leader (Leia) who she never met before instead of Leia's old friend Chewie or all the returning heroes who Leia leads - Luke does not get any unwarranted hugs but only after he succeeds and after he becomes friends with the huggers (Leia/Han);
- Rey becomes captain of the MF after Han's death, stepping over Chewie who “likes her” and looks at her in an adoring way (like everybody else, the Rebels are even waving her collectively goodbye when she leaves) - Luke does not get any positions and is violently pushed away by Chewie;
- Rey is sent on the most important mission to find Luke, leaving all his friend and family behind her - Luke does not get any solo missions;
- Rey is so important and special that even long lost light sabers and dead VIP masters like Obi Wan and Yoda call out to her - nobody really calls out to Luke;
- Rey is desired by everybody, but she is hard to get: she either friend zones or emasculates the characters who are fascinated by her - Luke does not even get the girl in the end;
In the end, Rey in TFA gets Han's gun and iconic ship (Falcon), Luke's legacy light saber and R2-droid, and Chewie as a copilot - and she finds MacGuffin-Luke: she is the SOLE HEIR and SAVIOUR of the SW UNIVERSE - Luke gets a medal, but only next to Han, who already is successfully flirting with Luke's wanna-be girlfriend and sister!
And let's not even compare Rey in TLJ vs Luke in TESB, shall we, you were saying?
Oh and now look at the progression in my analysis.
Normal Jedi: Blinded to a Sith in their presence.
Anakin: Defeated the Normal Jedi.
Luke: Defeated Anakin.
Rey: Just going by the math, Rey should be able to beat Luke, as long as she relies more on natural talent and less on training.
Kylo might have had his own full power inhibited by his training. Snoke, not being a "Sith," may also be pure natural talent with no training.
Luke and Anakin were both powerful Jedi who didn't need much training because they were Skywalkers. There was at least an attempt to explain away their Gary Stuness. For example, Luke is an ace military pilot because he used to kill womp rats in his personal vehicle on Tatooine. I think it's a crock, but at least it's something.
The Johnson writing for Rey and others is just plain sloppy. She lives on a sand planet but can swim. Finn couldn't fly in Force Awakens, but suddenly can fly in Last Jedi. At the end of TFA, The New Republic was in power, but at the beginning of TLJ, The First Order is in power when no time has passed.

shareLuke piloting the X-Wing in ANH was sloppy writing (they removed a lot of plot from the original ANH script, which later became Empire). But it was not Gary Stu writing: His piloting abilities are properly set up at numerous points, he does not pilot alone but with R2 (who can fly th ship alone) and its a one-man fighter, not a bulky old truck like the Falcon.

Yes they did. Luke learned Force abilities from his Masters, and by self training over YEARS (in Empire "I have learned so much"). We see it best with the telekinesis: At the beginning of Empire he is badly trained at it and hardly able to pull the saber, but after his training with Yoda it's easy for him in the Vader fight (he still loses). Compare that to Rey who had no training and knowledge of the Force at all, but within HOURS still manages to pull the saber first time (and do mind tricks), and to defeat the Master of the Ren with Force abilities and with the saber. She "downloads" (JJ Abrams) the Force abilities rather than to learn them. Anakin learned his Force abilities in the Jedi acadamy, he is still beaten and shot down more often than he wins.

The insistence, by defenders of the sequels, that Luke is a 'Gary Stu' or that Rey and Luke are similar is proof that their arguments are based more on faith than on anything else. It is fascinating, really, to see how they warp reality to try to conform to their seemingly predetermined world view.
sharewarping reality around your charater rather then warping the character around reality is the very definition of Mary Sue writing. So it's only natural that the relevant fan arguments are based more on faithful misconceptions than facts.
Thus we get classic absurdities like: "Rey is no Mary Sue. She is exactly like Luke. Luke is a Mary Sue." I find that very entertaining tbh.
I try not to pay Frog too much mind. She seems to be a genuinely single minded blanco feminist & clam enthusiast who feels obligated to to defend these terrible films and especially Rey because she's got to "support the team" i.e. Kathleen Kennedy's feminist agenda with these films.
Say what you will about the Lucas, the guy did have the sense to not write flawless Mary Sue protagonists, realizing that would be poor writing decision to fall into that trope. He made Luke & Anakin very flawed. Lucas could have easily fallen into the Mary Sue trope with Anakin with all the "Chosen one" stuff but did not. But Kathleen Kennedy called upon J.J. to slap together her Mary Sue self insert as the protagonist of the ST because "screw it". Just label anyone who calls out her obvious Mary Sue protagonist "sexist" and afraid of strong female character.
Even J.K. Rowling had just enough sense not to make her (admitted) self insert (& almost Mary Sue) character Hermione Granger the main character of her books.
