Would you forgive Disney if they'd release a proper Blu-ray of the OT w/o George's silly additions?

i.e. with the touched-up effects and space sequences, but without Han not shooting first, without Jedi Rocks, without Vader's 'NOOOO' and so on?

It will never happen. The Prequels are part of the story, you can't just excise them because of your own childhood Star Wars fantasies. And that Despecialized Edition should be hunted down and destroyed, because it's ILLEGAL.

reply

Maybe 10% of the changes can be considered necessary because of the prequels. Not a very convincing argument.

What does canon has to do with preserving movie history? They can be released under the "Legends" banner if they were really that concerned with confusion.

PS. The legal status of the despecialized edition is a grey area since it's a fan edit.

These types of posts remind me of this classic 80s song... Keep Me Hangin' On...

No. I will never forgive them. I will keep watching the old movies and maybe a few good ones they could make in the future, but I will be VERY selective of what I would call 'canon'.

It will probably happen in a few years as a "Hail Mary" pass to try and save the franchise (but by then it will be too late). And Harmy's Despecialized Editions have completely stolen the thunder. The longer Disney waits, the more people will get those editions and more irrelevant their release would be. They would also be under pressure to make it look better than the despecialized versions, which would be no small feat at this point.

It's worth noting how much better the despecialized films are. You have not really seen Star Wars until you have seen those.

(Downloading is completely legal as long as one already owns the blu-ray or DVD "specialized" editions).

As much as I love Harmy's versions, Disney could easily one-up him by releasing 4K restorations of the OG films.

Silly additions?

You call Victory Celebration a "silly addition"???

reply

Why would or should we forgive them just for doing that? Anyone could do that. People DID do that already for FREE. Disney would only be doing it for their own profit and NOT out of respect for fans, so why would or SHOULD we forgive them if they were to do that?

Disney made their shitty bed. Let them lie in it. FUCK them.
