The weakest moment

For me it was Han Solo's death scene. It was a lame scene and a very silent death for a huge character like Han Solo. You could of course go with it and say this is the strong part about it but at the moment I saw it in the cinema it felt wrong to me.

Why? Harrison Ford wanted Solo to die BEFORE Return of the Jedi.

The op stated it was how the subject was portrayed...not the subject itself. I think most assumed Han would die...many just wanted a satisfying heroic end and felt it was not delivered in TFA. I thought Chewbaccas reaction was underwhelming when compared to his behavior in TESB when Han was put into carbonite or when Luke and Han were stranded outside of Echo base. Many other problems existed from Leias reaction to no funeral...

It was an opportunity to show the audience the reverence held for one of the most iconic figures in pop culture...and for myself it disappointed.

Totally agree!

Would probably re work the entire third act now that I think about it...

There was no drama or tension in that scene at all. As soon as it started I knew what was going to happen.

reply

Yeah the second he sets foot on that walkway you know exactly what's going to happen. You even have Rey & Finn getting into position for a prime view. They even made fun of it in the Lego TFA game, they had some stormtroopers munching popcorn. And of course he had to fall down a shaft. Why bother crafting a beautiful elegaic final moment for one of pop culture's most beloved heroes when you can just have him fall down a shaft?

Another story hack by JJ, just like the sentient, telepathic lightsaber.

And of course Rian "didn't have time" for Han's funeral in his 152-minute movie. It would have taken away from important scenes like Luke spearfishing, milking an alien sea cow and Rose, Rose, Rose.
