So sad for you Americans who can't see the original Scandivian series...

As an American who's currently watching the BBC broadcast of Series 2 of the original Scandinavian series "The Bridge"...hands-down one of the brilliant mysteries ever broadcast on TV...I just shake my head at the stupidity of American broadcasters who insist on "Americanizing" (and ruining) the best work from elsewhere in the world. You can have your "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men"; I will take "The Bridge" and "The Killing." Sad that Americans have to settle for so much that is second-rate these days.

I've seen the original version, and prefer The Bridge.

reply

The originals suck, prefer the american versions.

That "stupidity" translates to billions of dollars. They're not in it for the art. The real stupidity is expecting the "American broadcasters" to do anything other than make the most money possible.

So why not direct your wrath towards audiences which actually watch crap like reality TV instead of the "American broadcasters" smart enough to cash in by catering to them?

^ This

If it's a good story, I don't mind seeing another take of it.

So, instead of sharing some specifics as to why fans of The Bridge may well enjoy the original Scandinavian series, you decide to be snide. Yawn. Rude is easier than developing your thoughts on why the original is so compelling.

I like the "remake." I thought it got even stronger once past the serial killer story. Season two is off to a very strong start. I am certainly open to seeing the original. The original version of The Killing is also now available in the States.

I enthusiastically recommend Spiral (Engrenages), a French crime drama. I am currently on the third season, and find the show very engaging. In addition to being a high caliber crime drama, it revels aspects of the French Judicial system that I find very interesting.

Hands-down one of the brilliant mysteries ever broadcast on TV? Really? I guess it's obviously subjective (and your opinion may even be shared by lots of others) but it didn't do much for me as a piece of TV drama. I thought it was ok, but no more than that.

And yes, I'll take "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men" over "The Bridge" (SE/DK) anytime. And I'm not even American,

I'm not American and I prefer this version. So if that makes me a philistine, I guess I'm a philistine.

reply

I agree - the original series is the best crime drama I have ever seen.

So with hola you can watch netflix from both the us and uk? Netflix allows that?

reply

I've seen both and agree that Bron/Broen is better in terms of cinematic quality and realism. But I still really enjoy both versions.

Does anyone know where I can watch Season 2 of Bron/Broen with English subtitles? I can't find it anywhere.

reply

Love both versions and wish it wasn't so darn hard to see original versions in the US. I have been searching for Forbrynelsen III with english subtitles forever and it seems impossible. Too secretive and why? Makes me wonder if it is done on purpose so Hollywood can do a remake.

Um its on HULU PLUS

reply

Only Season 1 is on Hulu Plus.
