So sad for you Americans who can't see the original Scandivian series...

Agree Bron/Broen was much better, especially the Saga character. But I must say, I did enjoy the American version. It copied the main plot points much too slavishly, but it diverged quite a bit from the original and did a pretty good job rooting itself in Mexican border issues. No such problems between Sweden and Denmark, eh? I think season two will give it a chance to develop its own identity, I can't see them following the plot of Bron at all from this point, except for Martin's . . . uh, Marco's obsession.

Now, "The Tunnel", that was indeed totally despicable!

How does making an "Americanized" version of something ruin the original? Are you one of those people that would rather see an ex lover dead than in anothers arms? It has no effect on the original and does not detract from it in any way, you are delusional or stupid. I've heard the original is good and I downloaded it and have it on my list of things to watch but since i'm assuming it has subtitles it's not high on my priority list. I don't settle for anything. I watch what I like as I please and besides an internet service bill and $2.99 a month for an anonymous VPN and proxy it doesn't cost me a thing. I can watch almost any TV series or movie made in the past 20 years regardless of what country it aired in. Personally I loved Breaking Bad and thought The Killing was total crap. Who wants to wait 2 seasons to find out who-dun-it. I rather enjoyed the original Millennium Series movies but the Americanized version of the first totally kicked the originals ass. My only complaint is they haven't done the sequels in an Americanized version. You are entitled to your opinion but my opinion of you is you are kinda stupid and like OCD or something. If you have two pies on your table at dinner and one tastes bad but the other tastes good does the bad pie ruin the other pie? No, it doesn't. You don't like it then don't watch it. The other option is to go online and complain about it and make yourself look like an idiot so have fun with that and enjoy wallowing in your ignorance. I'll keep watching all the movies and TV I enjoy from all around the world for free and if I don't like it then I'll watch something else.

I think this is great. Don't know anything nor care about Scandinavian television since I'm in America and they discuss real American/Mexican problems. Oh and I'll take breaking bad because it's prob the greatest American show ever as well as sopranos and I can go on and on. Not so sure we get 2nd rate stuff because of a show in Scandinavia or wherever

Maybe some of us like watching both versions? And how does the American versions in any way affect the originals? The wider releases give the originals more viewers who want to check out what a show is based on. The Bridge and The Killing are both great, as are the originals. Don't have to bash them just because they were remade for a broader audience. And the settings for both remade shows are more familiar to the American audience, and in no way does that hurt the originals.

The Danish/Swedish original is imho one of the best crime series I've seen in a long time. Love the characters, the story telling and the cinematography.

I don't mind remakes or, rather, different interpretations of the same story. In the case of The Bridge, the US have definitely done a great job. I'm not saying it's better nor is it worse. It's just a really compelling narrative told in a beautiful way. They've clearly been inspired not only by the story and the characters, but also the bleak and gritty cinematography, the toned down score, etc. On the whole, it's a great series and I really look forward to seeing more of it. If anything, the US/Mexico border will probably make for more interesting plots in upcoming seasons. The Danish/Swedish border is not so much of a hotspot - I would know, since I grew up in Malmö.

My only criticism would be they don't let Diane Kruger go all the way with Sonya. If you look at the Scandi "Bron", the Saga character is significantly more wooden. That's because people with Asperger's are just that. They don't know how to express empathy and are quite, very much so, odd in social settings. In the first half of the US series, they let Sonya be quite wooden and distant. But in the second half, it's as if they feel compelled to give her a more misty eyed and emotional appeal. I think it's a bit populistic by the producers/director and maybe Kruger as well. If you want to portray Asperger's, do it right. When it comes to that particular issue, the Scandi version is superior. I hope they do something about that.

I'm not sure how anything "ruins" the original, particularly since 95% of the intended audience for the Amercian version doesn't have access to, or has heard of the original version.

In other words you're saying, "I like the original, and although hardly any of you will be able to see it, I don't want you getting your own version. I want this for myself so I can hold it over your head."

Besides, this anti-Americanization of European TV and film has gotten way out of hand. Does Hollywood do a poor job of recreating this stuff? Sometimes, maybe even often. I love foriegn films and there are plenty of foreign shows that I have enjoyed, but for the most part, they are not well made. It may sound crass, but there are benefits to the extra money American studios can throw around. Generally the actors are better. The set designs are almost always better and the cinematography is always better. Better script writers can be paid (though the cheap productions just copy the original stories) and experienced directors can be brought in. Production value is just better overall, it just is sorry. Saying this, I still enjoy forign productions, but they are not the superior product many imply. They are simply the original, and there is something to be said about that, but that alone doesn't make them better.
