Was it necessary for us to hear Ellis farting

Just wondering would it change anything had that scene not been part of the movie.

Interesting question. What other scenes in other movies could have been left out? Is there anything in The Notebook you're uncomfortable with? How about Legends of the Fall? Maybe Brokeback Mountain? Come to think of it, maybe this is a good question. What makes a scene necessary? Maybe we should ask why it is you're so uncomfortable with the sound of a woman pooping. Why do you think that is? Are there any other sounds you don't like? Or is it just the pooping?

hey one two three are u making fun of my post. I only ask this question because it was very strange scene. in other movies, most scenes are important to the story, at least in the eye of director. Ellis is shown as very proper irish girl but on other hand she is ok with performing number two in open corridor with loud noises. Just imagine if anybody walks by what impression will they have of this girl.
And yes you are right, I am somewhat repulsed by mention of woman pooping noises and bathroom stuff dunno why. i think because it reminds me of something smelling very bad. some movie have pee sounds also i am okay with that.

It shows the desperate and squalid conditions on the trip. It shows the edge she's being pushed to so that when she gets to New York, we understand how psychologically blasted she is. This informs her homesickness, speaks to her inexperience at travel, and shows the ordeals she endures.

Do we need specifically to hear that sound effect? No. But the fact that the movie unblinkingly shows these conditions is important to understand the immigrant's mind, psyche, and emotional state, and to show the world that the protagonist inhabits.

I must've missed the fart. I didn't realized she was pooping in that bucket, I thought she was peeing. But the whole thing confused me because to my knowledge sea sickness makes you puke, not piss & shit.

To me, that was completely gross! They could have just shown her throwing up, and left it at that. I wonder how the actress felt about that scene?
