ANY OTHER ACTRESS WHO COULD PLAY JASMINE?

Cate B deserved the Oscar. She was wonderful. I think Meryl could've played this were she that age. I also thought of another Aussie, Judy Davis. I think she would've nailed it perfectly as well were she that age. I thought of her role in Woody's Husbands and Wives. She plays neurotic great. Probably Kate Winslet, as well. Anyone else?

but not Tori Amos

Hilary Swank and Charlize Theron are too young for the role. Jasmine has a college-age son who attended Harvard. Nicole Kidman would be my 2nd choice. She's played the sophisticated socialite before and has a classic beauty. If she had taken this role, she perhaps could have won her 2nd Best Actress Oscar.

I will echo Vera Farmiga, since I'm totally in love with her performance on Bates Motel. She's funny, dramatic, impossible, tragic, and complicated on the show, a lot like Jasmine.

But, no one could've played this role like Cate.

I kind of liked Vivian Leigh's performance; it was more nuanced and broader at the same time.

reply

I'm afraid I can't picture anyone as Jasmine besides Blanchett since she IS that spoiled, anxious and depressive specimen.

reply

only Meryl would be as good, I think.

Jasmine reminded me of the character Rosalyn Rosenfeld from American Hustle, ergo I believe Jennifer Lawrence could play her as well - not as great as Cate does it (well deserving of her Oscar), but still.
I can see why some would disagree though, and I agree with them if it is regarding age as someone in this thread mentioned. Jennifer is too young to be considered an actual candidate, but if she would have been offered the part in her forties - she would have been fantastic.

@Missyrocks. I choose the one and only Meryl Streep. Her and Cate can transform themselves into any role.

Chloe Sevigny... she has the same air of sophistication / class. As goes for Winona Ryder (she did the "broken diva" act so well in Black Swan), Naomi Watts or Nicole Kidman.

Madonna (of course). Wow, what an exciting prospect!

Rachel Weisz, Diane Lane. And many others as mentioned in thi thread. It´s a good role so any good actress could´ve pulled it off. It´s not my favorite role from Blanchet. Not sure she deserved an Oscar for this particular role. She´s had meatier roles. Too bad she lost against Cotillard, she deserved the OScar for Elizabeth.
