What is Ridley doing?

When asked why David killed the engineers he talked about how engineers visit the planets the seed and if their seeds aren't up to scratch, they wipe them out and start again. He goes on to say;

"If the planet went wrong, they would want to wipe it clean. But that could take 500 years. When they revisit – because different visitors would come back and see we’re not doing so well – they would look at these human beings that are jerks, that are killing the planet, killing themselves, can’t settle down, they’re like a bunch of children. We should wipe it clean."

Where was this information in the movie? Why the fuck is both Prometheus and covenant so severely lacking in plot details? This is the second movie in a row where he needs to explain character motivations because the movies are so devoid of information. Who the fuck signed off on this shit at fox?

"David has no respect for the engineers or humans"

No shit Sherlock, WHY is the fucking question? There was no hint in Prometheus that he hated humans, only that he wanted to be praised by them. To be recognised as being better than. To be "the hero". But by the next movie he's a fucking nutjob? How? Why? What the fuck?

reply

Have you listened to the commentary on the Prometheus Blu Ray? I got the impression he pulled most of it out of his rear to begin with

reply

that's what it seems like.

reply

I havent listened to it, no. But I did read about it. He apparently considers david to a be replicant, not an android. And got a bit pissy about people assuming the opening scene is on earth. So much potential and its all just pissed away in favour of "the mad scientist did it" trope.

reply

In reply to your last few filthy sentences...

Remember his discussion with Walter? About the older model androids (eg. David) being able to be more creative and it scared the humans, so later models (e.g. Walter) were more utilitarian by personality.

I got the impression from that discussion that David had developed some severe problems in is own artificial intelligence due to this older programming and his action to destroy all the Engineers was related to this.

reply

It wasnt. As for my "filth", If you dont like it, dont fucking read it.

reply

I could see David's justification for poisoning Shaw's boyfriend, and even experimenting on her to an extent after she died but nuking the whole colony of engineers seemed excessive and out of character

reply

He watched an episode of their favourite TV show - "Look at these dumb robots".

It'll be in the extras on special edition Blu-ray were Didley will contradict himself so much that he'll start making sense.

reply

Lol Didley!

Honestly I am looking forward to covenant on Blu Ray. Hopefully will have some decent extended scenes

reply

I'm surprised you haven't heard the term Didley Squat before when referring to him.

At least with A:C he didn't make the mistake of saying that what you see in the movie is the director's cut and so he has plenty of opportunity to build upon what he's put out already should he wish to.

reply

Hey man, not all of us can afford to go to fancy schools like you! :-p

Idk if it would have been better to leave the whole engineer nuking scene out entirely, but I cannot understand how anyone could think that would leave audiences satisfied. It was borderline insulting

reply

it was pretty insulting, indeed.

reply

It wasn't insulting.

You need context.

It was Didley showing his contempt for his audience.

He is David at this point.

Also got 12 litres of elderflower champs bubbling away!

Happy dazed!

reply

Elderflower champers? Sounds perfect!

Preacher is a lot of fun, you'll have a ball of a time with it :D
