Opening weekend: 10th place with $2,575,00 at 2,010 theaters. Budget $40 million, so it will lose a fortune.
It is no wonder that it was used for the AMC $5+ "Screen Unseen" movie for January 3, 2024. It was a high quality production, but it was more of a drama than a comedy. It's about an atheist trying to make money as a fake alternate messiah to Jesus. Most of the cast is black, including the apostles and Jesus.
That's about 370k butts in the theater that saw this.

The problem is, for some lame-a** reason, the film hasn't been promoted at all outside of reviews on social media, and it also came out the same weekend the winter storms and these extremely freezing temperatures hit everywhere--which obviously kept people from going to check it out. Which is a shame, because it deserves to be pushed more than it has been. It's gotten a wide release, regardless, but that's several of the reasons it didn't blow up its opening weekend. I wanted to go see it, but it was too damn cold to go anywhere. I finally braved the cold and saw it. It's still playing, so hopefully people will spread the word about it. It's a good film---it's just very weird and unconventional, but I like weird and unconventional films, so it's right up my alley, lol.
