What was with Ray watching the jewelry channel?

He sat and was watching the jewelry channel at least 2 or 3 times in the last few episodes.

he was shopping for a watch.

He did buy Abby that necklace, didn't he? Can't remember if the TV watching was in a flashback or "current" time.
