I'm a woman and I loved this movie.

I was surprised to come here and see a less than 7 star rating for this movie. Do you think fewer men or fewer women enjoyed this movie?

During the first 30 minutes I definitely was thinking it would suck because I thought they would try and project Barbara as the perfect girl who changed Jon for the better... I was glad to see that the narrative called her out for exactly what she was: a manipulative narcissist.

Esther wasn't an awesome character but regardless of who she was- she was real about it... which to me, was the point.

It shouldn't be a surprise that gorgeous women who are constantly being told how gorgeous they are begin to value this trait as a tool. Barbara was interested in what she could get for herself as opposed to what she could ever give to someone else.

It is easier for women to get casual sex but this movie perfectly showed that casual sex purely for self-satisfaction isn't where the best sex happens, so for women, who statistically are much less likely than men to orgasm during each sexual encounter... it should be easy to imagine that fewer women find casual sex as appetizing as men.

Casual sex can be fun, feel great and shouldn't be demonized the way it often is... but I think a lot of people, just like Jon in the movie, forget that it can be much, much more enjoyable when it is shared in a meaningful way.

Speaking as woman I can feel aroused and motivated about giving head but it is *mostly* a selfless activity that I do to give pleasure to my partner... something I'm much more likely to do for someone I care about and want to make feel good than just that one night stand who I'll never see again.

And, that is reflective of a real encounter vs. porn which isn't.

There is a great documentary I saw about The Bunny Ranch where they talked about when the Bunnies runoff to get married to former clients and how it NEVER works out. The quote was "These guys think 'great! I'll get a blowjob everyday!' and the Bunny is thinking 'great! I'll never have to give a blowjob again!'"
(The Bunny Ranch obviously being a parallel to the perspective that porn places on sex)

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

I am a woman and I also loved this movie..I did hope to see more of the relationship development between Jon and Ester. It was very credible to me, when Jon lost himself with her, but wouldve made more of an impact had there been more time to explore each other.
I have known many men like Jon. Deep down they do want a connection, but too warped in their values and expectations to find it. But once they do, and they surrender to you and to themselves, they are totally different people. They go from boys to men.

I think you hit upon the main reason Barbara became so (overly) enraged when she found him watching porn. Sex is her tool to get what she wants. She knows she can get just about anything if she uses sex properly. Notice how she gets him to agree to introduce her to his friends and family as she is causing him to cum in his pants. That was pure manipulation.

So with this being her main tool in life, she lost her s**t when she saw that he was getting it elsewhere. That takes away the value and strength of her main tool. If he can get it elsewhere he won't be so susceptive and manipulable. Her agenda was in danger.

So, same as any wife. I kid.
