Miscast. Actor is almost 2 meters tall. Actress is like 50 cm shorter. It was distracting

All I could see is their height difference. It was ok when he was 24 and she was 14. Literally child. But then she looked like schoolgirl even she was was suppose to be 21.

They should have cast different actress for adult scenes.

Real Elvis and Priscilla did not have such enormous height difference.

Elvis was 1,82 м
Priscilla was 1,63 м

Not to mention how horrible actress was playing. Is she some nepo baby? Cant believe she was cast. I look and Priscilla young pictures and I see smiling and happy person. Movie Priscilla was charisma vacuum, snob, sad, depressed, personality free buzz kill.

Same with Elvis. Actors like Austin Butler and this Elordi guy try to much to mimic Elvis look and speech that they can't smile because they thing they will "lose look". And Elvis, who was funny and happy person - looks sad and depressing. While you see on videos and pictures him smiling all the time.

They didn't really look like real people, but that's ok. I was there more for settings, costumes, and cinematography.

The whole film felt really cheap. I didn’t think the guy playing Elvis looked anything like him and even Cilla was poorly cast.

reply

What were they thinking with casting that charisma vacuum piece of wooden as Priscilla I dont' even know. Had to be some nepo child or slept her way. I saw videos and pictures of real Priscilla. She looked like smiling and fun person. Actress never cracked a genuine smile n whole movie I think. She was walking with her sad depressed face all the time.

HHhmmm - you're saying Cailee Spaney wasn't any good?

I haven't seen the film so I can't say either way.

What I can say is I saw Cailee Spaney in "Mare of Easttown". I thought she was terrific. I'd never seen her before. When I found out she was playing Priscilla - I thought - "Yeah, that works, good casting."

Well - maybe not.

The whole film is cheap and kind of pointless. Whether it’s her acting or just a bad film? Maybe a little of both?

reply

It’s not her acting as it was fine - it’s just the film was very average .. why was it
Made? It showed us more of Priscilla but were people craving for that info?

reply

To me it had a telemovie vibe about it and was depressing. I don’t think I gained many new insights into Priscilla other than her father being very comfortable with her spending time with Elvis.

reply

They really did make it look like Cilla was miserable most of the time and controlled. Given the real Cilla was a producer maybe that’s what she wanted people to think.

I was actually surprised that real Priscilla allowed herself to be portrayed so bad and weak. On the other hand I don't think she could order who to cast and was not having veto. Directors and Casting director chose actors. And they were acting. And its only when movie is edited and comes out - she could see how actors played Elvis and her. And its too late then and she only has to praise movie and hype.

But I had the same problem with Austin Butler too. I see videos of real Elvis. And he was fun loving person. He was smiling, joking. And then they do movies about him and he is always portrayed as sad, intense creature with no personality and always looking miserable. Who never smiles and jokes. And it was here like that too. Jacob Elordi was not good.

And it had to do with the fact that aactors try too much to mimic his look and voice and mannerism. So they think if they will smile - they will stop looking like Elvis.

I really hated the Baz film, jumping from different time periods back and forward, modern soundtrack at times. And yes, no humour at all from Elvis, a bad accent from Hanks which doesn't make sense if the Colonel was an illegal alien trying to hide in the open, why keep the accent?

I thought Austin was too weedy in build as well.

Elvis would be hard to play because there are so many films and recordings of him. Not to mention his fans as obsessive but the actors who play him do tend to go for the broody type image.

A good angle would be to do a film about the Memphis Mafia from one of his entourage's perspective.

reply

Yes. I would watch about his adventures with Memphis Mafia. I didn't even know they existed as I don't follow Elvis life that much. And I think that this movie is the first time I noticed that there were those "yes men entourage" next to him so lot.

They don't portray that aspect that much in other Elvis projects.
