Why does Twister look better?

I haven't seen it but I have seen the trailer and I cannot believe that a movie made in 2014 looks way worse than a movie made in 1996. The tornadoes in this film looks so fake. A problem with movies today is that they rely too much on CGI because it's cheaper. If you look at Twister, the tornadoes look much, much better. Hell, the Wizard of Oz (1939) tornado looks better than the tornadoes in this movie. The sad part is that there is a generation of kids going to see this movie who have never seen Twister.

I agree with the original poster in this thread. I saw the film tonight and while I did enjoy it, the twisters do look very fake. The last one (the massive one) was a bit better, but the other ones all looked the exact same. Frankly, that doesn't happen in real life. Every twister looks unique. It has its own shape and width and speed. Twister's tornadoes did look more realistic, in my opinion.

I don't know about Twister being better, all I know is the plot was nearly identical.

Spoilers below

Loony people, each tornado getting subsequently more violent, tornadoes that split, etc etc etc.

Seriously, I do not rate this film at all. The final nail in the coffin for me was the two loonies, after having been sucked into a tornado, find themselves upside down in the trees - all that was messed up was their hair!!!!

Bloody ridiculous, the tornado would have ripped their arms and legs off in real life, totally stupid.

Twister was better, acting wise, the gloss of the film, and that film had heart.....an 8/10 from me....Into The Storom had better graphics than Twister during the tornado scenes but I didn't feel there was enough of those scenes.....It just felt like a high scale B Movie where as Twister felt like an epic cinema adventure.....Into The Storm I would say is a 6/10 from me....Acting wasn't bad in it but some acting just felt a bit wooden....The red kneck twister hunterz were so funny though :)

If you love animals you wouldn't eat them

the rednecks had me laughing, i was thinking "yeah these would be my friends during all these crazy storms" ... when they rolled the ATV on that hill, after their truck got destroyed.... LOL

This thread is ridiculous. What's the point of hypothesizing that Twister "looks better" when the OP hasn't even seen this movie? At least watch it before commenting.

THANK YOU.

Since when was CGI cheaper?? The reason some films have huge budgets is because GCI is so expensive.

If you rely on it, it can be expensive, but famous actors/directors and especially the marketing will almost always be more expensive.

Why do you think some CGI companies had to forcibly close down (e.g., Rhythm and Hues)? They're definitely not getting enough money if they aren't ILM, Weta or Sony.

You are complaining that they rely too much on CGI because it's cheaper. I supposed you wanted them to get 100 yards from a REAL EF5 twister? Some people just won't be satisfied until someone dies making a movie...

I mean, next you'll complain that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes didn't train 200 apes to talk and use guns...
