The worst theories?

So what do you think are the worst theories?

Mine in no particular order
1. It's all sex (the tray on the desk looks phallic because you're horny!)
2. Minotaurs... (I know the labyrinth makes one want minotaurs, but it's a skiing poster)
3. Moon landing guy (very well thought out drivel, and saying the government was coming after him just made me want to make him a tin foil hat)

On the other hand individual little points were fine, like the carpet changing direction, the impossible window, and the Playboy.

I thought it was funny that each person was obsess with something, and that just happened to be what they saw in the movie. Maybe THAT is what he was going for.

Light help the world! He lies in the snow and cries like the thunder! He burns like the sun!

The minotaur idea was one of the best I thought. Besides which, between the ski poster and the Amerindian one, there is a minotaur poster in the middle shown as outside the room that the other posters adorn. The minotaur, like man mythical beasts, represents an archetype in the human psyche.

When Kubrick started to make movies, Minotaur was the name of his production company.

Yeah that paper tray they mistook for a hard-on was HILARIOUS! I'm like, what the hell is wrong with you?

And yes, minotaur lady was delusional. The less said about moon-landing guy the better.

I'm wondering if I misunderstood this one, as it was so bad ..

If you play the film forwards & Backwards at the same time .. You get weird coincidences .. Well, maybe, very maybe.. one or two, but hundreds where you don't.

But "If you start playing the film this way, you begin with the helicopter shot combined with the old July 4th, 1920's photograph shot" .. OK ... but then, shock horror, surprise surprise at the end .. "You again get the two shots together" , and this showed circularity.
I mean, please, did I really hear that and understand what the were saying? Because, if I did, it is so ... nothing.

Most of this is ridiculous. For example the “carpet changing direction”. It’s not that deep. It looks more pleasing for the ball to roll up with the patterns aiming into Danny, but if you don’t flip the hallway for the next shot it would look like the ball came from the exit door. Much creepier & better visual to show the long empty hallway. I’m sure Kubrick thought to himself, no one will notice the continuity error in the theater. Now here we are…

You say that, but they could have had Danny "pointing" in any direction they wanted, so they could have had him facing the correct way so that the ball doesn't come from the exit, AND so that it looks nice against the pattern.

I’m not following you here.
All I’m saying is that Kubrick most likely thought the ball looked better rolling up with the carpet pattern aiming into Danny. Not “any way they wanted”. Kubrick only had two options with this shot. Ball rolling directly down the pattern’s line looks better. But in shooting the close up that way he had to be okay with a quick carpet continuity error, or it would appear it came from the exit door.
