Reveal?

I know this is a really old documentary but I just now heard about it.

According to a Mental Floss article: "So when the film reveals why Schuler drove nearly two miles down the Taconic Parkway in the wrong direction with five young children in tow, the reason is almost too terrible to believe."

I have not been able to find whatever it was the film revealed. What did the documentarians think was the cause?
