Industry analysts are projecting that the film could bring in about $145 million domestically in its opening weekend, which starts Thursday. "Black Panther" could rake in more than $160 million during the four day President's Day weekend, analysts say.

"Black Panther" could easily become the biggest February opening in history, toppling "Deadpool," the R-rated superhero film from 20th Century Fox that brought in $132 million when it opened in 2016.("Deadpool" also holds the four day President's Day opening record at $152 million).

"Black Panther's" three day projections would also put it in the top openings for a Marvel Studios film and in the top ten opening for the superhero genre overall.

Fandango had already previously confirmed that pre-sales for the big budget comic book flick have surpassed many other films, including Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But as fans trickled into general release theaters mid-week, the ticket sales company affirmed that Panther ranks number four of its top five movie pre-sale ticket list.

This is no small feat. The top three pre-sold movies are Star Wars genre flicks and the fifth is The Hunger Games. Panther's pre-sale trend has led to sold out shows across the nation.

Hilariously a posted named Queenfan, Made a thread 15 days ago when Expectations were at 100-120 Million....The Poster then claimed it would be nearly impossible for BP to live up to these dangerously high expectation and claimed BP would ultimately fail to meet the 100-120 Million dollar expectations and would then be seen as a disappointment

lol little did this poster know, in the coming weeks, BPs expectations would continue to raise all the way to a 150 to 180 Million OW....and Now were not only getting confirmation that BP easily meet and exceeded those "Impossible/Dangerously High" 100-120 Million dollar expectations, But BP Will even meet and exceed the 150 Million + expectations

all around this Poster named Queen, is getting ready to have a horrible 2 weeks....actually, This poster has had a terrible 3 months...lol this same poster also made some of the worst box office predictions ever for Both Justice League and Thor 3, this poster queen, Made countless predictions for Both JL and Thor 3...and every single one failed

worse off, Queen is a Massive DC fan and Massive Marvel Hater....so the anger, shame and jealousy queen must be going through having to watch JL fail in every possible way, while at the same time watching 2 MCU films in Thor 3 and BP completely succeed and exceed expectations in every possible has to truly be PURE HELL

anyways, went on a little rant there couldnt pass up the opportunity to BRUTALLY make fun of queen

but to your overall post...I've followed box office for 15 years, and I dont think I've ever seen a film hit With this much Overwhelming Hype and Buzz in the final 2 weeks...this has been just an avalanche of nothing but Positivity toward this film, from some of the best reviews ever scored by a blockbuster to A massive "Cultural Movement" with this film...

Black Panther realistically should have opened between 80 to 95 Million, that is what Similar debuting MCU movies made, that is where tracking started, This time last month, tracking suggested BP would open around 80 to 100 Million....but an Avalanche hit of almost unprecedented Positivity, resulting in This film literally Skyrocketing...

Its truly stunning

I don't know what Box Office Mojo is smoking but I want some of that! LOL. Seriously...BP's Thursday. Preview numbers are nearly 3 million less than AOU's and that fell quite short of 200 million, let alone 212 million.

This is a very promising start for sure but we will have to watch as this unfolds throughout the weekend to see just how frontloaded this may be. I'm excited to see the film by the end of the weekend.

Satan...another thing to note about the Box Office Mojo projection is the fact that The Dark Night Rises(in 2D and in 2012) Made 5.3 million more than BP and in far fewer screens and only at midnight!

Guess what? It only made 160 million for the weekend. But this is going to somehow make more than that?

These is the range extrapolated based on the preview/OW ratio of other CBMs for 3-Day.

Suicide Squad - 164M
Civil War - 181M
Justice League - 182M
Spider Man Homecoming - 191M
Thor Ragnarok - 213M
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 217M
Doctor Strange - 228M
Logan - 234M
Wonder Woman - 237M
Deadpool - 263M

Won't go as high or as low as that range but you can see where the range is coming from.

Disney has updated projection to $190-205m. Does anyone know if 12pm update time of article means noon or midnight? I always use 24h myself.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/weekend-box-office-black-panther-leaps-huge-252m-thursday-previews-1085462

The tentpole's projected Friday haul is a mighty $70 million-plus, including $25.2 million in Thursday evening previews. Since it's so early in the game, Disney insiders are erring on the side of caution in projecting a $190 million-$205 million domestic weekend.

Friday (inc Thur) was $76m. Looks like $200m opening. Worldwide is $123m.
