Death?

Not sure I like the casting for Death. Now, I should say I haven’t watched the show yet but only caught youtube clips. The actress does seem good, but she doesn’t look like the comic version. Raceswapping is such an issue lately and tends to cause as much fan irritation as not.

If they had to race swap, why not some petit Asian actress? Or a Kpop-looking one in heavy makeup? That would be more faithfull to the Goth comic appearance. Or, if they really wanted a black face, why not someone looking more like, say, Sade?

Oh well, Minor quibble. I have Netflix, I’ll give the show a chance in a bit.

Kirby Howell Baptiste is a good actress and did a good job as Death. But I would have liked all of the endless to have an other worldly look. The acting is good but I miss the feeling you get from the comics. What I didn't like about the episode is that they felt the need to explain too much about the endless. It is 75 to 85 percent Gaiman and 15 to 25 percent so so to crap.

She's really good, though, so even if she doesn't look like comic book Death, her performance is great. Gaiman was right in defending this casting.

Now, the girl they had playing Rose Walker, on the other hand... I don't know what they were thinking. She's one of the worst actors I've seen, and the fact that she has such a central role to the last half of the series basically sinks 50% of the episodes in a quagmire of dullness.

Okay, finished the season 1 episodes. Excellent adaptation, very faithful to the comic. Some of the casting, like Dream, Desire, Despair, was spot on! I hope Netflix reconsiders a second season. They did a great job with this!

Yes,it has been years since I read the comic, but Dream was great casting.

But Death? I recall Death from the comic as really cool. This one? Big disappointment, failed to live up to the comic.
