Horrible ending

The initial premise was interesting and the initial chemistry between Scott and Westfeldt was almost believable, with a charming supporting cast... I bought the first part of the movie. Though the plot arc wasn't developed in the most realistic way, it's an interesting thought experiment.

At the end, the dialogue and chemistry really tanked. Something about the final pacing was off- Jason's change of heart was totally forced- the most pivotal exposition indicating to is that he intimates he had a "really" dirty dream about her to his sleezy friend at a bar?

The final scenes between Joe, Julie, and Jason were ridiculously forced. After a couple hours of watching other married couples fighting and a main character who chose physical attraction over his "best friend" for the first two years of their son's life, I mostly just feel sad. Don't think that was the point...

I thought it was believable that he changed his mind and wanted to be with her after all. It matches the premise of this sort of movie and he does seem to be in denial about his attraction to her for most of the movie. They do conceive the kid in the "old fashioned" way and the odds are that it took more than one try.

I did find his means of expressing his attraction jarring, mostly because I don't recall him using that language during the rest of the movie so it seemed to come out of nowhere and really isn't all that romantic or seductive to me. They could have set up the line earlier with some discussion about how, if he's going to spend his life with someone, he's got to be incredibly attracted to her, he's got to just look at her and want to *beep* the sh*t out of her." If they'd done that and then had him use the line, I would have found it less jarring and more fitting since we would then understand the value of those feelings to him.

I thought the whole movie was a little 'off', not just the end. It had some great lines and nice observations, but it was all so trite and cliched it felt more like an R rated Lifetime movie.... without a serial murderer.
This might have made a better mini-series as some of the characters, including the main two, were so poorly drawn it was frustrating. It simply tried to do too much with too many people in two hours.

Total Hollywuss crap this movie turned out to be!

I didn’t find Jason’s conversion at the end of the movie at all convincing. I could see him realizing that he is in love with her but not that he wants to make love to her. I think it is highly unlikely for a man to discover he is sexually attracted to a woman (whom he sees frequently) only after many years unless her appearance has changed significantly.
