I understand William's wife being jealous, but any wife or husband should not resent their spouse for having feelings for a very old love that feels even stronger than the love they feel for them. They need to appreciate that this man or woman married them, has been faithful and loving to them in every way. It doesn't need to mean they think of the old flame with a desire to be with them.
shareWhat I found interesting is that Ellis described his mother as being a New Englander, sweet, yet tough as nails. I didn't find her particularly sweet and the way she had her meltdown just over William reminiscing about an old love forty plus years before, she didn't seem very strong or tough either.
