If you google Die Hard 6 right now, you can see writers are pitching ideas (so, early preproduction). We also know Jai will be tied up with terminator til early 2015, and Bruce has movies booked solid through 2015.
I think, with rewrites, filming, editing, etc. I would expect it Summer-ish 2017.
Do we really need another Die Hard? I love the original trilogy, but the franchise hasn't been very good lately. In fact, it's become a travesty.
I'd love to see the series end on a high note -- I just don't know if that's even a possibility anymore. FOX will probably just hire another hack to pen another cringe-worthy "Die Hard" movie.

I saw a YouTube clip of Bruce talking to David Letterman in Aug 2014, and though its not much, Bruce still says its in the early script phase (so its past the point of simply pitching ideas when those Samuel L Jackson rumors came out that he may be back for #6).
I get a strong feeling that this will be one of those movies where like everything is announced at once: release date, writers, directors, title. All signs still point to 2017/2018.

John McLane needs to be dropped off at a seniors home and Jack needs to take over in the DH movies.
Don't get me wrong I love Bruce and the entertainment he has brought to us but it's time to let the son be in charge and maybe daddy tag along.
