The women of Oceanside have the right idea for a sustainable diet.

Fishing will certainly give them enough food all year long and their bones and scales can make for some very basic tools or pretty items to look at.

I've no idea what the Scavengers eat but they don't look too healthy. Some sun of their faces and some exercise will sort that lot right out.

If we could get Daryl and Dwight to become friends then they'd have some people who could go hunting together and get them some real meat. Maggie will be needing plenty of iron and too much fish isn't good for a pregnant woman to eat.

I find it frankly unlikely that a community like this wouldn't be found by the Saviours.

reply

The Saviours couldn't even find a travelling carnival filled with guns and bullets or Terminus. I think they just do what the writers want them to do and hope that the audience doesn't mind too much.

Why isn't fish good for pregnant women? Many people in the past like Japanese, Polynesians, and Filipinos survived on vegetables and seafood like fish alone, including pregnant women.

reply

Exactly. We're such a meat-centered culture that people tend to overlook the fact that fish are loaded with protein. And it doesn't have the artery-clogging fat that's in red meat, either.

reply

Mercury in certain fish species. Bad for unborn baby. Limit intake for adults.

reply

Certain fish species and the type that lost people don't eat daily or often at all.

I've eaten fish ever since I was young at least once/twice a week. But I know people who've eaten seafood only, and it's fish mostly, for most of their lives. Eating fish is very very common. I'm from the Philippines btw. Most Filipinos subsist on fish alone.

reply

Fish have omega-3 fatty acids which is very healthy. Not all fish contain high levels of mercury. I eat tuna about twice a week and my mercury level is fine. I had it tested a few years ago.

reply

True. People have been subsisting on fish alone for thousands of years, both pregnant and non pregnant people. So I doubt that it is bad for you and like you mentioned, mercury is found only on certain species.
