Anyone think the trailers are a big misdirect?

What if Laurie gets killed fairly early on and then it becomes about Michael vs. her daughter. I don't know if I want a full on retread of H20

I don’t know about Laurie being killed early on. I mean, again? Well, I wouldn’t flat out say it’s not a possibility, but since this has been built up as a big final confrontation (of sorts) between Laurie and Michael, I think getting Laurie killed early in the film would cause outrage.

I do, however, agree with you that the trailers could be misleading us. It is a feeling based on the trailers ostensibly revealing a little too much, although I may be completely wrong.

If that were the case, then I approve. I would love to go in and see some very unexpected twists and turns. But if the final film closely resembles what’s been shown in the trailers (for the record I’ve liked the trailers, especially the latest one), then fingers crossed it’ll be a great surprise nonetheless. As long as it’s well-executed and effective, I can deal with “too much” Michael Myers in the trailer

I don't think she will. The movie will probably follow most of all the other Halloween movies when it comes to plot structure or whatever you want to call it. Quite a few of them start on October 30th (at night) and then end on the 31st with the first half of the movie mostly taking place during the daytime and then the second half of the movie at night. I think the two reporters (or whoever they are) go to interview him during the day on the 30th and then Michael gets transported later that day (well at night) and escapes at night. Then all throughout the daytime on the 31st/Halloween Day, we see him "suit up" and make his way to Haddonfield. Then he starts going on the killing spree and stuff when it starts to get dark out aka Halloween night. So it'll probably be at the 50-60 minute mark by the time it gets to Halloween night and when the "fun" begins. Maybe around the 45 minute mark at the earliest. The movie is supposed to be 1 hour 49 minutes, so I can see it taking 45-60 minutes to get to Halloween night. The last 45-55 minutes could be all Halloween night and I don't see too much "downtime" in that. The pacing will probably pick up quickly. But Laurie and Michael seem to have a showdown at night, so it's most likely Halloween night, which means that could be anywhere between the 1 hour 20 minute mark and 1 hour 35 minute mark.

But I can see Laurie dying, especially since some of the stuff I read say that Laurie's granddaughter is actually the main (hero) character/final girl. So if the trailers are misleading, it's about who the main character/final girl really is. Laurie probably dies trying to save her granddaughter, but the REAL final fight is between Laurie's granddaughter (Allyson, I think is her name) and Michael Myers. So if the movie is really 1 hour 49 minutes long, I can see Laurie making it to at least the 1 hour 20 minute mark before she dies/is killed off. So I don't think there is much misleading/misdirect going on for Laurie's screen time.
