AMC's Mayfair Witches is officially CERTIFIED ROTTEN on RT!

VERY interesting....

After the OVERWHELMINGLY GLOWING reviews that AMC's woke "re-imagining" of Interview with a Vampire got (it scored damn near PERFECT with the critics!), its immediate followup series is getting utterly wretched reviews in comparison. Season 1 currently sits at a pathetic 42% score on RT.

My guess is AMC blew their ENTIRE WAD buttering up the critics with Interview (which explains all the insane "10/10" reviews, weeks BEFORE the show had even aired!), trying to create an artificial "buzz" for the show, that they had absolutely no $$$ left to spend on propaganda promoting Mayfair Witches. Thus, we're getting entirely HONEST reviews about Mayfair, judging the show solely on its own merits (or lack thereof).

Doesn't bode well for AMC's plans to create some godawful "Anne Rice universe" and re-imagine ALL her book characters and plots in order to pander to the present-day SJWs.

I didn't like the Mayfair Witches book, so I'm not surprised the series isn't good. The commercial didn't look interesting.

On the other hand, the Interview book was among the best I've read. The movie was very good, but the re-imagined series surpasses both with a great bold new story, cast and direction. I give it a 10/10.

The ultimate irony is if you read the slew of negative reviews for Mayfair Witches, the main complaints are the SAME objections we had when AMC did their “Interview” adaptation last year (and it’s the SAME people in charge of both!). Namely, AMC craps on the source material and alters the story and characters to fit with their modern “reimagining” of the story.

Frequent complaints are they invented a brand new "Ciprien Grieve" character to be a composite of Michael Curry and Aaron Lightner from the books (one critic compared it to trying to merge Obi-Wan Keonbi and Han Solo into a single character), and they altered Cortland Mayfair -- who is supposed a cranky, elderly family patriarch well into his 80s at that point in the story – to instead be a Shepard Smith-like “hip & outrageous caricature” of a flamboyant southern gay man.

These SAME critics and “fans” racking Mayfair Witches over the coals were the ones openly scoffing at anyone who objected to the changes they did to Interview. They were fine and dandy with the “boy” interviewer from the book being played by actor pushing 70, the 6 year old “child vampire” Claudia being played by an adult woman, and changing Louis from a white plantation owner in the 1790s to a black brothel owner in the 1910s. According to them, that was fine because sticking with the source material would be “boring” and they were just “updating” the story for the 21st century, and supposedly being true to the “spirit” of Anne Rice’s books.

So why the heck aren’t this new "Ciprien Grieve" character and the flamboyant southern gay dude just “modern updates” that reflect the “spirit” of Rice’s books and give it more “depth”?

Apples and oranges. Interview's adaption was exceptional. I'll assume Witch's wasn't. But like I wrote, I didn't watch it.

The old journalist was a major improvement. The ones in the book and film were underdeveloped and boring.
Even Oprah thought a child actress in the vampire movie was repugnant. A 14-year-old played by a young-looking adult is better and can do more adult-theme story than a child could. The bratty child to moody teenage girl was funny, realistic and clever. The fights between her and Lestat were perfect. Wonderful dialogue and acting!

A black Louis brings more depth to the story. Also, great that both are out of the closet. The platonic relationship in the movie was dumb. Lestat had an obsession for Louis. Platonic my a@@! 1920s New Orleans had great music, environment and clothes. How can you hate 1920s New Orleans? That was another nice improvement. De plus, ils se parlent en francais!!!!

I don't get the impression that you watched either reboot. Am I correct?

I don't care about reviews, I'm still planning to check it out. Have you seen Mayfair Witches? What are your thoughts on the show?

reply

I haven't seen it. To be honest, I haven't read Anne Rice's 'Mayfair Witches' book series, either. But the fact its being made the SAME PEOPLE who made Encounter with a Turdpile tells me everything I need to know.
