why i thought the ending was brilliant (spoilers - obviously)

The ending basically justified all of the shitty acting we saw in the first 3/4 of the movie - and even some of the unrealistic shit we saw, where the killer obviously shouldn't have been able to move around unseen and take out people as easily as he did.
We all saw the film 'Game' - where the acting from the 'actors' was perfect. This film removes this perfection and makes things a tad more realistic, by showcasing shitty acting from the pretenders.

Now, when I realized that this was another take of the 'game' - I did laugh a bit, but it's when they went for the practical joke within a practical joke - it was so unexpected that the dam broke and I started laughing out loud for a few minutes after the fact.

So, to me - this film served as a pretty brilliant and unexpected joke. In hindsight, the use of such shitty acting throughout the 3/4 of the film was ingenious. I was rolling my eyes, bored out of my mind - I think that's what made the ending that much more impactful. If it featured great acting like in 'the game' - with some really good action sequences.... the ending would be nowhere near as funny.

But I thought Mel Gibson's acting was on point.

Everyone's acting was on point if we consider that in 'the game', people pretending to be this or that would not have been as good at selling it, unless they are all oscar winning actors (not likely in such an organization - more money to be made in hollywood, if you are that good). Now.... you'd expect the person being pranked to catch on rather quickly, since the acting was so crappy and a lot of things didn't make sense, but since that person was actually aware of the prank and was also playing a prank on the prankster - it all made perfect sense, and justified the poor acting from all parties (including MG) and the poor script for the prank.

The only time when they needed decent acting was in the last 5 minutes - lol

well this makes me actually want to watch the movie.

I had a strange experience watching this. At first I was so pissed off because this is not how SWAT works. And then that all turns out to be a ruse and it all just felt a little bit Three Stooges. It was really tense and good and then when the premise kicks in, silly beans. A TV show I used to watch did this same premise. Starred a comedian that was big in the 80s. Millennium? Maybe. Anyhow...
