An absolute waste of time to avoid!

This movie is unbelievably bad. The plot doesn't make sense so if you value your time just avoid it. To give you a taste of this absolute disaster:
1. A character is shot in the abdomen and is brought in excruciating pain while losing blood. They just sew him like a puppet and after an hour of rest, he is all fine walking around as if nothing has happened! No internal bleeding, no cardiac arrest despite the loss of blood, nothing! The only anesthetic they use is a mouthful of whisky!
2. A character's daughter is being threatened literally at gunpoint in everybody's view and nobody suspects that he might be lying to save his daughter.
3. A mob boss runs errands instead of sending his suspicious henchman. It doesn't occur to him that the whole thing might be a trap and that he can stay put sending someone else to check on the whereabouts of his suspiciously disappeared son.
4. A character must speak in horrible French on the phone to a black lady who speaks perfect English. And that black lady only knows "hi, sorry, my god, idiot" in French which he throws here and there in her conversation. But anyway, why a female back mob boss in Chicago speaks French is beyond me.
5. A tailer has come up with an unbelievably complex plan which at any moment can fall apart and the whole movie is about believing that impossible plan.

reply

1.agreed
2. she isn't his daughter,
3. perhaps his son's disappearance was clouding his judgment
4. apparently Chicago had a large influx of Haitians during the 1920's-50's.
5. don't all movies of this type involve some unbelievable complex plan.

reply

2. Yes. But would that scene make sense at all?
4. OK. But did that Black mob boss need to speak with the girl in French? Her English was clearly sufficient. Just a useless nonsensical detail.
5. Yes but when everything else is this bad you at least expect a reasonable story.

In general, this is a bad movie like many others. What I don’t understand is the hype!

5. He’s not a tailor, he’s a cutter.

I loved this film. Taut drama with interesting twists, wonderful acting, and sharp dialogue. Could have been a stage play (maybe it was, I haven't checked.) And Rylance was terrific; great screen presence.

I think it takes a little suspension of disbelief, but if you have imagination enough for that, you'll find it very compelling. If you don't, then you won't.

Perfect realism isn't always necessary, nor even desirable. Else, why have movies?

I agree - I enjoyed this film. Low budget, sure, but compelling enough within the story universe. Agree that it seems like a stage play, no doubt because the entire film takes place within the walls of the shop.

1. meh ive seen more unbelievable human acts in film.
2. not his daughter. they have a long history, hes a old friend he helped and seen as a weak nobody who wouldn't do anything
3. this henchman is his second in command, he doesnt suspect him
4. weren't they from the south? its been awhile. some people in Louisiana spoke French theres a big creole population.
5. I agree the plan was overly convoluted
