But clearly deliberately cast for their lookalike qualities. Why would you do this? Isn't the time setting itself enough for the nostalgia factor?

Ah, yeah, slight resemblance, but like AMJF said, the IT kids are a lot easier to look at. I think audiences just expect that now as opposed to the '80s?
I honestly don't think it was intentional though, but who knows.
