What 80s reference should they have included?

I think it could have done with a scene where the boys are playing nintendo. That's how most kids spent their summer.

This movie didn't take place in the '89 I lived through. Movie felt like it was in the 60s or 70s but for the occasional 80s reference that felt very out of place.

Big Dogs sportswear, Airplane and Naked Gun references (if Paramount would allow WB) and SPuds MacKenzie (another canine!)! And Married with Children!

I would have to be some kind of Atari or Commodore. Nintendo didn't come out until 1990 or 91.

No they didn't.... kids in the 80s spend their summers outside. People didn't sit inside playing stupid games all day long, all summer long, or on nice days at that time. Most people didn't,anyway.

Yeah that was the point. That's why the kid was ashamed. I thought it was pretty funny even though I didn't know that when I saw it.
