How in the heck did she enter a place similar to the World between Worlds ?

I suppose it has something to do with her being there before, and having some sort of access to the realm.
What I'd like to know is why is her master dressed in dark attire and with Vader's saber.
Like father, like son. Luke was wearing dark attire as well.
