They must have paid Ellen Burstyn a butt load of money to be a part of this. IMO her role in this movie was gimmicky at best. The storyline just seemed fragmented, there were moments in the movie that were never explained and the ending just seemed flat and rushed. There were a few subtle moments that paid homage to the original, but all in all this movie would have been best served to stand on it's own and not try to cash in on the success of the original.

Supposedly she negotiated a large sum for an educational scholarship for a school she is involved with.

From what I've read even though she's only in an extended cameo she didn't get paid THAT much... about 550k.

Producers originally offered 275k and she explicitly said she only came on board for the money lol.

By comparison Joe Pesci was also barely in a handful of scenes in Lethal Weapon 4 (25 years ago!) and got paid 1 million.
