I happened to rewatch Venom last night with my buddies and we were stoned and drunk and we found the movie hilarious, so much better this way. On my first viewing when it came out at the theater (not stoned or drunk) I, like every other sane person found it to be terrible. Maybe this is one of those “so bad it’s good” movies best watched when stoned with your buddies making jokes and ridiculing it.
shareI think the acting, effects, etc. are too good to go there. Plus, I enjoyed the weird relationship between Eddie and Venom. The plot's a little ho-hum, paint-by-numbers, and the side characters aren't as memorable as they should be, but no, I wouldn't say it's so-bad-it's-good. That'd be stuff like Ed Wood's oeuvre, or The Room.
Because of Eddie/Venom, I liked the movie, and I hope they find their way into a better one in the sequel.

shareThe first time I saw it, I was fully expecting to hate it. But I liked it fine for what it was. But it did feel like two different movies. Perhaps if it leaned more into Deadpool territory than the action-horror element which the trailers suggested was the tone, it'd been more consistent.
