I hate the beatles...

However this film looks interesting.

I quite enjoyed "Across the Universe", (as a one time watch only.)

But overall I cannot stand the band. They do nothing for me whatsoever, which is only made worse by the obligatory Beatle-love everyone seems to believe in.

I don't mind if someone likes the Beatles, so I get frustrated when people seem so offended that I dislike them.

I understand that they were innovative, fun, and great for their time, but in my mind they have been surpassed, and that doesn't necessarily apply to modern times.

Oh thank you so much, but I don't care whether you mind me liking whomsoever I like or not.

Idiots:

Musical taste is subjective -- as is the case with all artistic expression. It's value is not something that can be proven or even argued by way of logic, reason, or fact. Nobody's opinion is more, or less, correct than another.

Except mine.

That being said, the Rolling Stones, without question, are a far better band than the Beatles. The best ever, in fact.

Your statement, "I understand that they were innovative, fun, and great for their time" - reminds me of my thoughts about Jimi Hendrix. He was talented, and his "sound" was innovative, but unfortunately, easily duplicated. So by today's standards, nothing to write home about, any more than you would a Ford. (But in their day, innovative!).

However, I would take exception to the statement, "but in my mind they have been surpassed" - surpassed by whom? Equalled, certainly; but surpassed? Don't confuse comparative with superlative.

Unfortunately, like Jimi, John died before we could reap the benefit of his creative genious. Who know what he would have come up with? Something better I imagine (no pun intended) than the top 40 in the US today, which is absolutely horrid and talentless, worse than any year in history.

A world-class photographer once told me, "Everyone has a masterpiece" - meaning that anyone can create a classic song in the right time and place.

Dick Clark said it best, "Its got a good beat and you can dance to it"

What? You're dumb.

Where the *beep* do you people come up with some of this *beep* Jimi Hendrix has about a dozen rock classics under his belt, point me in the direction of a rock song as melodically beautiful as Little Wing, or something like Manic Depression or Fire and maybe I won't just refuse to believe you've ever listened to a Jimi Hendrix Experience record. Easy to duplicate? What does that even mean? What nonsense.

And if you actually think the Stones are better than the Beatles, you need to have your head examined. And I loves me some Stones.

In other news, Im not wearing pants. Film at 11.

All I have to say is, I grew up listening to the Beatles, and I was born 1989. I'm not saying that The Doors are a bad band, but in no way (in my opinion) was anyone better then The Beatles. They got most of their inspiration by Elvis, Bob Dylan, Chuck Barry. And you know what? even Elvis was threatend by them. And if you think they wanted to be up there on stage wearing there suits and being all proper and sweet, then you haven't done your homework. Just because "Beatlemania" was a bunch of young girls in awe of their british boy looks, everyone seems to overlook the *beep* music! Listen their albums in a row and you can hear it, heck by Rubber Soul and Revolver you can see it. If it wasn't for the Beatles most of the bands you heard after that wouldn't have been a gosh darn thing. Again I'm not saying that every band was influenced by them, but the ones you say are your "favorites" like The Rolling Stones.. were "in love" with the Beatles. Watch any recording, or concert, I bet you see Mick Jagger in the background smiling like a little girl. The range of music that came out of that band, you wont see ever again. They have great sweet melodies like "Julia" great hard rock songs like "Come Together" a great beginning and a bash out ending. OH, and btw most of the music that comes out today is Pure Crap. And I did say MOST, not all.

And Buddy Holly.

Renoir once said-"The terrible thing about this life is that everyone has their reasons."Not liking the Beatles isnt a crime. What made the Beatles great in my opinion starts with songwriting.Great melodies, great lyrics that often came from personal experience. They started simple and with influence from other great artists of the 60's(Dylan,Stones,Beach Boys,Zappa,Who)they used those great songwriting skills and experimented with the sound and instrumentation to create something special. They took the influences around them, and created prototypes for the best of many genres:rock and roll, folk rock, psychedelia, heavy metal.Their ability to absorb the different trends around them and make something their own with it was one of their hallmarks. One example:The Who hit the charts in 65 with a very unique sound where Keith Moon's drums were often the lead instrument. The Beatles heard them, and came up with Ticket To Ride. The sound of that record is amazing, but what really made it memorable was what a great song it was regardless.Anyway, thats my long winded opinion.

They were great. But I think their cultural impact has been overrated. For the majority of Brits and Yanks, the 60's were little better than the 50's had been in terms of opportunities. And I think Ray Davies was a better songwriter both in terms of melodicism and subject matter.

Nice reply there pal. I have a soft spot for The Doors, and their story (in particular Jim's) is fascinating if nothing else. But, let's be clear on this, The Beatles will always be the greatest band to have walked the Earth. There's been nothing new from them in over 40 years and still nobody's threatened to steal their crown. I'm still trying to find an album that hits me in the way the White Album did when I first heard it. Sadly, I just don't think I ever will.
