I hate the beatles...

However this film looks interesting.

I quite enjoyed "Across the Universe", (as a one time watch only.)

But overall I cannot stand the band. They do nothing for me whatsoever, which is only made worse by the obligatory Beatle-love everyone seems to believe in.

I don't mind if someone likes the Beatles, so I get frustrated when people seem so offended that I dislike them.

I understand that they were innovative, fun, and great for their time, but in my mind they have been surpassed, and that doesn't necessarily apply to modern times.

I admire your respect despite your disliking of them. Fair enough, you don't like them. I have a friend who is so desperate to like them just because it's considered cool to like the Beatles and it grinds my gears. He clearly doesn't like them; he's got about ten of their t-shirts but he can't even name five or more of their songs...
I much prefer Lennon's solo career to the Beatles' work. I'd love to see a film about his break away from them.

reply

Why people get 'offended' is this:- you saying 'they do nothing for me' makes no sense because the Beatles had very many different styles and their songs were extremely diverse, covering pop. rock, ballad, drug, epics, kids songs, ditty's, psychedelia etc. So to say 'they do nothing for me' means you really dislike an awful lot of styles in music!
The Beatles made it up as they went along, developed greatly and did it all in 6.5 yrs of recording.
Unbeatable...

Dude, you can like or dislike the Beatles, but to claim they have been surpassed is no longer a question of taste or opinion, and you're simply wrong.
The boneheaded commenter below who says Elvis, Chuck Berry and the Who surpassed the Beatles is clearly delusional, so let's leave him out of it.
I'd like to know who YOU think outranks the Beatles' (wholly justified) default status as the greatest band ever. Not who you like better, but who you can reasonably argue is better.
Go ahead, we're all curious.

When it comes to the Beatles, I've always thought that they were a good band, even a great band, but not THE GREATEST BAND ON EARTH EVER as some people seem to believe.

reply

I .... don't like the Beatles either. I don't hate them, I don't think other bands have surpassed them. That, to me, is a completely asinine claim and one made for the sole purpose of ruffling feathers, but there are at least fifty bands I prefer to them. And, for the record, I like rock more than anything and don't consider my taste in music shotty. (Pixies are the fave.) The issue for me is not an absence of songs I like, I've just heard them all over and over and over again and everybody after them has tried to be them in one way or another and I'm worn out, frankly. I'm Beatle-weary and they don't excite me and never have. Their songs are not those that I could listen to on repeat all day long, and I feel like that's what I've been subjected to.

And I don't like John Lennon, Paul McCartney, or George Harrison. But I can't say anything bad about Ringo because that's blasphemous.

reply

They're pretty good. Not my fav or anything but good. Way before my generation but I could still appreciate their songs. The movie was not bad but by the time it gots to the end I was just like it didn't do that much for me too.

Then if you hate The Beatles...then who cares ! I love The Beatles and always will !

I'm not a real big fan of the Beatle's, but I do respect them a lot. For that time period, I'm more into the Animals, Dave Clark Five, The Kinks, The Who and early Stones. And yes, I know they were all influenced by the Beatles. I just like them better. To be honest I have respect for all the bands that came out during the early 60's, they wrote their own songs, and when they went into the studio, their was no laying down of tracks, they went in together and because of that they needed to know their stuff. And if they didn't, session guiarists were waiting in line to come in and play. Jimmy page comes to mind. I think he played on a couple of early Who albums, and I don't think Pete Townsend was to happy about that. If I could get my time machine working, I would love to go back to the early 60's and see all of these bands live. Having said all that, If I had to pick a favorite Beatle song, I think I'd go with "I need you" off the HELP album, written by George. I'm sure most of you would go with something else, but I just like that song.

I truly love the Beatles music. Actually did get my first kiss while listening to one of their songs. Memories make the music just as desirable to listen to now. I don't know any really good bands today. Maybe they are out there, I just haven't heard any. The Beatles are on top of my elite list of favorite bands/groups:

The Beach Boys
The Bee Gees
The Temptations
The Carpenters (I had to sneak that one in.)

My favorite song also happens to be by George Harrison - "Something."

reply

I think anyone who appreciates good music knows the Carpenters were great. They just don't want to admit it! I remember seeing an interview with Richard Carpenter and they were talking about how "un-hip" the Carpenters were. He laughed and said "Yes, we sold eleven million records but nobody bought 'em!"

Songwriter Paul Williams also commented "People said the Carpenters were plain vanilla... but what a flavor!"

reply

You don't enjoy their music.
I really don't see how that's a reason to hate them.
I also think that most music nowadays is not on their level.

reply

Saying you don't like the Beatles is like saying you don't like air. You simply need the Beatles. Saying that any other band is better than the Beatles is your God given right, but it's like saying farts are better than air.

reply

It's not like popular music has really moved much since then. If some of their would be released now it would be considered special still.
