Spoiler question

So Russell calls Harlan, lures him to Petty’s bar with a promise of cash, then lies in wait in his car until Harlan arrives. BUT when he does, Russell *just watches* as Harlan and the thug go into the bar? Then he wastes more time loading his rifle and sabotaging Harlan’s van! Meanwhile Dan gets beaten and shot dead!! What did Dan do to Russell to deserve being a sitting duck decoy? It was all so inept and cowardly.
