The 2015 Max Max movie was a net loss

The 2015 movie had a high budget, and though it grossed about $380 million, the movie was a net loss.

so what made them think it would be a good idea to do a prequel for Furiosa with a $168 million budget? Did they think a Furiosa prequel would outdraw the 2015 film?

Why the fuck would anyone on a film discussion board or remotely interested in cinema, who is neither a studio executive or producer, care about box-office or the financial aspects of film making?

reply

Because how this movie does in box-office can determine whether filmmakers and studios will make movies like this one again. The mad max franchise might be done as a result, and who knows if they will make other action/adventure movies that are similar visually or thematically

Your “why do you care” reply is cope

What do you mean for cope?

reply

No, I hear you man, it's just: we have the cinema we deserve. If people on film boards discussed the artistic merits of films instead of only ever talking about money and politics, maybe we'd become better spectators, we'd have better film critics, and eventually we'd get a better cinema.

reply

If you are really interested in cinema you are interested in everything around it.

I can dig that, but for one post discussing the artistic merits (or lack therefor) of a film, I come across ten that are about box office, and twenty that are about politics. These days, people are EXCLUSIVELY interested in what's AROUND cinema and very rarely about cinema itself.
