So did this put a stake in the heart of the Mad Max franchise?

Doesn't seem fair. This movie is Furiosa. It's not about Mad Max. It just takes place in the same universe.

Doesnt really interest me. I like George Miller but he is just cannibalizing himself with these pseudo Mad Max storys that have basically ZERO to do with the originals.

Heres what he should have done. Continue the story after Beyond Thunderdome with Tina Turners Character. Then take a good look back at Gladiator. Modify that basic premise and adapt it to "Back To Thunderdome". Max (Mel Gibson of course) is Gladiator. Tina Turner and Thunderdome are Rome. DONE! Only took around 30 seconds to come up with that. Needs to be tweaked of course but it would work and continue the post apocalyptic storyline and Journey of both Characters. Its not a huge stretch to make it work. I like Thunderdome but many didnt. I dont think I have ever heard a complaint about Tina Turner in the role though and she and Mel got along great from reports Ive seen.

I dont bash on Miller though. Hes one of the all time great directors IMO. These days I suspect he is just trying to get ANYTHING made everything has become so blatantly politicized people are basically done giving the Film Industry chances. Im sure the propaganda would stick out to me even though I keep reading how its not political... yeah right LOL. Fury Road had all kinds of social engineering nonsense in it as well people like to ignore. The original trilogy was brutal. All three of them would get censored by studios today. Fury Road was like a dumb cartoon and they basically turned Mad Max into an unlikeable jerk for most of the film. Gibsons Max was always likeable. Hardy is a solid actor but he plays every role as basically a villian. Gibsons Max wasnt like that AT ALL. Im not surprised these newer Max films bomb like they do.

Watch Twilight Zone Film Segment Nightmare at 30,000 feet with John Lithgow. One of my favorites from George Miller. Just a fantastic director back before the film industry went full blown .....Meh.

Who knows. Might make a zillion dollars with bluray and streaming. There's also different rules down under. I read something about how this movie was partly financed with 100 mill of tax payer dollars somehow. It was little over my head.

The movie cost them $168 million even after the $100 million rebate from the Australian government
