Think I've picked up on a couple of flaws that aren't working well...

One is, the plot lines are all over the place with so many fragmented side things going on and some of them that lack much interest or are prolonged for too long.

The next thing is how the metaphorical ball on the field is not being moved anywhere. It's like in the movie Stand By Me when one of the characters makes the observation that on Wagon Train the wagon train never seems to get anywhere.

Still, though, not really complaining and just enjoying a wildly different type of program that can still shock and surprise one.

Yes, it is like a perpetual game of ping pong where no one is keeping track of the score. The good guys score a point, the bad guys score a point. Who's winning? Who knows. There's always the promise of, "oh, now the shit is really gonna hit the fan" - and it does, but afterwards the power dynamics remain exactly as they were. We can reasonably assume that the bad guys will be on top at the end of every season except the final one.

But still, it's good fun.

yeah that last episode of Series 3 really showed the formula

our heroes really snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

The subplot with Frenchie and his gay lover has nothing to do with The Boys or the main theme of the show. It is like a cut and paste from a spinoff no one asked for with forced added gayness shoved in our faces as an extra measure.

The show has gotten progressively worse with each new season.

you could say that of any show generally , especially in the "action" genre where they have to make concessions to make it continue on , which was the OP's point
