Harkonnen pronunciation


Why did they change it from Har-Cone-Nen to Hark-A-Nen?
It makes no sense based on the spelling and it was cringe to hear it

I always read it like the former.

They changed it from the Lynch version because they listened to Frank Herbert's interviews and Battles of Dune Album and pronounced it the way he did.

Lynch was the one that was incorrect, which is odd because he had Herbert there to ask.

To me, Lynch got it right and Herbert got it wrong. It was that bad.

It's how the Brits pronounce it. The original version was correct and it's "har-KOH-nan." The Brits started doing it in the miniseries to look sophisticated, but they ended up sounding as dumb as people in the 1960s Star Trek series did when they pronounced Klingons "KLING-ens."

Funnily enough, it's a very common Finnish family name, Härkönen.
