we are FINALLY getting an actual PLANET of the Apes!

This is the first POTA movie since Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) to have a premise with "Talking, intelligent Apes rule the world, humans are feral mute animals".

Escape & Conquest (1971, 1972) POTA films had a setting where the Apes hadn't yet overthrown humanity (they finally do at the very end of Conquest). Battle (1973) had a setting centuries later where the Apes HAD finally taken over the world, but the humans are still talking like normal anyway (which is why the film sucked)

The humans ALSO talked normally in the 2001 remake (yes, just like they had in the 1973 film, even though 2001 was set in an entirely different universe), and were just portrayed as powerless slaves instead of lowly animals.

Rise (2011), Dawn (2014), and War (2017) were also prequels where the Apes didn't yet control the ENTIRE planet and rule over humans. The humans do FINALLY lose their ablity to speak in War, which was a slow subplot throughout the movie.

Kingdom will be set several hundred years after that, where Apes are now the apex species across the globe, and rule over mute, feral, animal-like humans.

In other words, we're finally getting a POTA movie that is ACTUALLY about the planet of the apes!

It is really quite empty.

I'm hoping in the next movie, humans are extinct and the apes are battling other animals like bears and horses for global dominance

Humans being extinct would go against the whole point of the franchise.
