don't READ if spoiler not wanted.
granted it seems to be a NOTHING spoiler, just a thing that happens with zero relevance to anything.....

for those that saw it....

was there ANY significance in any way to anything concerning that silly shoe that was standing upright there on the floor? he saw it, it was random odd, he frame it in his collection... seemed utterly pointless unless I missed something?

I’ve been wondering the same thing.
In fact, I’ve been wondering what was the whole point of the chimp attack scene anyway?

i read some really WEAK "interpretations" of the whole chimp thing: wild animals cant be tamed. same at the THING in this film, when he tried to use in a show and it blanked all the blanked and blanked them.
still, felt worthless to the overall plot to me, and only made the film too long

It's quite significant in several ways. The whole theme of the film is the behavior/customs of wild creatures and when humans don't give them their space. The shoe is an object Jupe fixated on because it was so bizarre, a 1 in a billion occurrence out of a situation of pure chaos, or a bad miracle. The fixation on the tablecloth and shoe is what saved him from looking the chimp in the eye and being interpreted as a threat. Further than that, it's significant to Jupe, because it's tied to some kind of fantasy of taming a dangerous animal or having a special connection or ability, I'm not really sure. The shoe I see as more of a perspective thing, it's probably leaning against another object, but to Jupe it just looks like it's standing on its own. I loved this movie btw...

excellent explanation.

Alright, ENOUGH, OP! There's no need to go that overboard with spoiler warnings, and I don't bother with them usually. My standing opinion is that people who haven't seen the movie should STAY AWAY from the appropriate MovieChat board until they HAVE.
