Most disturbing scene in the movie was...*spoilers*

When the alien sucked up those people to digest them, and we got a glimpse of their "journey" through its innards/guts. That was fucked up and just claustrophobic as hell. Imagine being sucked up like that, knowing that you're being eaten alive and there's nothing you can do about it.

It actually reminded me of a scene in Dragon Ball Z. In one episode, Imperfect Cell opens up his tail into a large funnel (in order to swallow Android 17), and the camera briefly zooms inside Cell's slimy red tail. Link to the scene below.

Here's that moment from Dragon Ball Z (Abridged was the closest thing I could find, but this moment is in the original as well).

That was an unsettling scene, also due to the sound effects where we can hear everyone crying and some weird chorus-like effect is added making it even more weird.

That thing the woman gets moved up to... I was thinking maybe partly-eaten horse or someone's headless torso / neck opening. She screams...

Gave me the same feeling of dread as the scene in War of the Worlds where the people in the underslung basket are brought up into the opening on the machine to be made into red mulch for the land.

The manner in which the alien sucked up a whole bunch of people from the Western show was very reminiscent of War of the Worlds when each of the various individuals trapped in the cage were sucked up one-by-one.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of this film, and a lot of the movie was almost Spielberg-like in its innocence, but that was the one scene I would feel uneasy about watching with my 8-year-old nephew. Like you say, the brief shot of the various people being sucked up through the alien's innards was deeply disturbing.
