Based on all the bad reviews this was definitely more enjoyable to watch than expected.

I would say that the story is very good. The dialogue is terrible at parts, some/most of the acting is dreadful (probably related the terrible dialogue. I never read the graphic novel, but the dialogue sounds like comic book dialogue. very short and blunt. There should have been some more character development to get us emotionally involved. We first really meet these characters when they get to the beach and most of them are so annoying at first that it makes the first 20 minutes or so hard to watch.

the dialogue is I think just a byproduct between Shyamalan's writing and the acting talent. Frankly, I found the graphic novel worse lol.

Glad you did find the movie enjoyable though. It felt very twilight zone-esque, and I really enjoyed the progression of the narrative, even if I didn't feel particularly connected to the characters themselves.

Rufus Sewell is great though; I've always liked him.

I thought he very much looked like Terrance Stamp. So much so that it seemed a bit of a lost opportunity for him not to have aged and been replaced by Terrance Stamp.
