The concept wouldn’t work realistically because ...

People would never go along and play this game, where others die so brutally right in front of them. No matter how much money is involved, people wouldn’t do it

It requires a suspension of disbelief for the premise to work. Although that's true with any show or movie.

If they get thinking about a couple billion won coming their way, they might. We can only go off of the people we see the backstories for, but think about the woman who needs to bring her mom in from North Korea, the guy who is on the run from the Feds in a big way, the thug who is wanted by a LOT of gangsters, and Gi-Hun, who is confronted with the idea of never seeing his daughter again and having his mother die from diabetes.

They feel they haven't any other options left.

The odds of winning are absurdly small. You’re not going to be of much use to your family if you’re dead, and in fact your death would be far more devastating to them than some financial troubles. Bad writing.

Except the main character is shown to have a gambling problem. I agree that it's a bad gamble, but that doesn't stop gamblers. Some people have addictions like this. Some people have such insane levels of FOMO that they would just go for it. Others would consider themselves invulnerable. Think about the thug/gangster dude. That guy probably couldn't imagine a scenario where he couldn't beat everybody in that room; he thought of them all as weak. Heck, he was already almost getting killed on a daily basis because of his life's choices.

While it's hard to imagine for some people, there are definitely people out there who would do this, and often these would be people that we might not envision going for it. It's too big of a risk for the main character - I agree -but he's shown not to think things through like that.

One of the worst things about the show, for me, was watching him learn and then not taking even a brief hiatus from this stuff to go be with his daughter. I hated that. I understand that he now wants to stop the games completely, but you'd think he'd take a minute to be with her.

There’s gambling for money, then there’s gambling with your life with almost certain odds of death - nope, nobody would do that unless they were clinically insane or suicidal.

I agree that he would also never abandon his daughter like that, visiting her would be the first thing he’d do after getting out, but of course the creators want the sweet extra money of a second, third, fourth season - very capitalistic and greedy of them which is ironic given how critical they are of capitalism in Squid Game.

Regarding the ending, yeah'd have liked it more if he at least visited her first before heading back out to destroy the evil game-masters.

I think a lot of people in those games were exactly on the edge of suicidal, and I think (depending on your definition of insanity) a lot of them were pretty crazy, too.

While they might not get the numbers that returned, I definitely think they'd have some takers.
